Sammantha Beers
Massage Therapist
Calgary massage therapist Sammantha Beers was drawn to the profession for its hands-on approach and meaningful impact. “I liked the idea of being in a healthcare profession, working with my hands, and helping people. Massage just seems to encompass all of that.”
Building Knowledge and Skill
Sammantha completed her studies at M.H. Vicars School, now known as Vicars School of Massage Therapy in Calgary, where she balanced full-time work with intensive training. She later advanced her skills with certification in Graston Technique, an instrument-assisted soft tissue therapy she uses to address tendonitis, overuse concerns, scar tissue, and more.
Her own experience with carpal tunnel inspired her interest in the technique, noting how it could be both personally and professionally valuable (she admits she first wanted to learn it to help herself).
Community-Centred Care
Today, Sammantha is part of the team at Active Back to Health, where she works alongside chiropractors, physiotherapists, and fellow massage therapists in a truly integrated environment. She works with a high volume of chronic cases, with 50 to 60% of clients being desk workers experiencing posture-related strain and overuse concerns such as plantar fasciitis and tendonitis.
Sammantha values the collaborative approach and the ability to refer within the team when needed, always placing each client’s well-being at the centre. “It’s more just focusing on what’s good for the client and what’s going to get them better above anything else.”
Outside the Practice
In her spare time, Sammantha enjoys embroidery, trips to the dog park with her mastiff Bronson (the biggest baby in the world), and time with family. She also practices yoga and exchanges massage sessions with colleagues to maintain her own health and balance.
