David Peterson

Chiropractor/Retired

Dr. David Peterson , a man in a blue shirt, smiling for the camera.

David Peterson

David Peterson founded the Active Back to Health Centre in Calgary, Alberta on May 1, 2000. For more than 23 years, the clinic has been helping patients of all ages and backgrounds achieve optimal health and wellness through chiropractic care, massage therapy, and other holistic treatments.

Recently, David retired in February 2022, after a recognized career as a chiropractor that spanned an incredible 47 years. He graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto in 1974, and immediately began practicing in Calgary. Over the years, he established himself as a trusted healthcare provider, dedicated to his patients and their wellbeing.

Two of David’s most notable achievements were serving as the President of the Canadian Chiropractic Association in 1999-2000 and also as a founding member and president of the Canadian Chiropractic Research Foundation which presently has chiropractic related research chairs in many universities across Canada. “He also received the Medal of Merit for this work, which is the highest award given by the Canadian Chiropractic Association.” He worked tirelessly to advance the chiropractic profession both nationally and globally, advocating for evidence based care and the rights of patients and practitioners alike.

Throughout his career, David was known for his compassionate and patient- focused approach. He took the time to listen to each patient’s concerns and tailored his treatments to their specific needs. David was also a strong advocate for preventative care, emphasizing the importance of maintaining good health through exercise, proper nutrition, and regular chiropractic adjustments. He innovated one of the first collaborative team based clinics with the opening of Active Back to Health.

As he enters retirement, David leaves behind a lasting legacy in the chiropractic community. His dedication to his patients, commitment to advancing the profession, and unwavering passion for healthcare will continue to inspire and influence future generations of chiropractors. The Active Back to Health Centre will remain a testament to his vision and his impact on the world of health care. Thank you David for your many years of service to your patients and the industry.

Dr. Mike Stewart in a blue shirt with his arms crossed.

Dr. Mike Stewart Doctor of Chiropractic

Dr. Stewart is a “hands on” chiropractor who focuses on everyday aches and pains resulting from “sit – stand – sleep” postural imbalances as well as week-end warrior injuries.

Over the years Dr. Stewart has come to realize that every patient is unique and may require a different approach during treatments.  Dr. Stewart believes that what happens in the office is only part of the treatment – patients are encouraged to modify their postures to aid in recovery.  If you have proper posture while sitting or sleeping your body has a greater opportunity to heal and prevent problems from occurring.

Dr. Stewart treats “frozen shoulder” and similar issues with the Niel-Asher Technique, for more information checkout frozenshoulder.com. He has served as a reviewer for many years with the Alberta College of Chiropractors and presently serves as an investigator/member of Complaints Resolution Committee for the College.

Dr. Stewart is married with two adult children and has a variety of interests outside of work including hockey, golf, hiking, biking and skiing. For Dr. Mike, a good summer day could start off with a bike ride then a game of golf and finish with a relaxing motorcycle ride in the foothills. Dr. Stewart has been blessed to use his skills in leading and participating in medical based mission teams to Guatemala and Malawi.

Dr. Jackie Fairbourn with curly hair smiling in a purple shirt.

Dr. Jackie Fairbourn, Chiropractor

“I knew with an absolute inner certainty that I would be a chiropractor. I was thoroughly inspired,”
said Dr. Fairbourn, moments after her first meeting with a local chiropractor. “This was the strongest
message I had ever received through my intuition and I am so grateful that I followed it. Not only did
I discover my future passion and career, I learned that we have an inner guidance system that
we can use to find healing and joy in life.”

My Chiropractic Path

Dr. Fairbourn began her pre-medical education at Mount Royal College here in Calgary and at the
University of Victoria.  After completing her study there, she was accepted at Palmer College of
Chiropractic in San Jose, California.

During her four years at Palmer, she found that she had a special interest in Activator Methods, a
low force adjusting technique that is very specific, gentle and effective.

After graduating in 2002, Dr. Fairbourn returned to the Calgary area to establish her chiropractic
practice. She genuinely believes in the principles of alternative healing which is that the body can
heal itself when there is no interference. With this strong belief, Dr. Fairbourn uses a variety of
techniques to thoroughly assess and treat her patients.

Personally

Dr. Fairbourn has two beautiful children, Gracie and Jackson.

When she is not at work she enjoys being outdoors, walking her dog, mountain biking,
snowboarding, cooking and spending time with her kids.

“Thank you for visiting our site. I hope to get the opportunity to meet you in person and discuss your
specific health challenge.
